If the transmission is making noise then it is on its last legs and this is likely why the car was sold. The fluid is a special fluid as the transmission can develop pressures of 900 PSI and the fluid needs to lubricate a metal plate band that runs on expanding and contracting ramped metal drums. If you do a search of the Board for VTI fill you will find a few posts on the subject. The amount of fill from the base level can vary from under a 1/2 litre to 1.25 (?) depending on the transmission temp. Providing you have the VTI transmission, check to make sure but you likely do, there can be over a litre (quart+) of fill needed after the base level has been set. repost if you'd like to see any of the referenced files. I've attached if you'd like to see for yourself.īTW. I read GM service manual instructions to change the fluid and there's no humor there. Many folks consider the CVT an inferior joke. Internally, what is happening to the transmission? How important is it to change the transmission oil? Is this why it is making noise? I read it should have been changed at 50,000 miles. But the Vue looks to require a super duper special oil to keep it running? Why not build the transmission to tolerate normal operating conditions and oil? Lastly, I bought this used and I believe the previous owner did not change the transmission oil. I understand viscosity and additive are blended to make oil. I asked him why the special oil and tools? He wasn’t sure but thought it had to do with remedies after the Vue transmission was built? OK, I understand expansion and contraction of materials, even oil, but if the fill is set at the proper level, why will the Vue transmission respond to such variations in quantity that one would take its temperature? It seams that temperature still would not make that big a difference perhaps only1-2 oz., unless there is a stuck valve or something that opens or shuts that affects the volume. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location. Logic would point to the 1-2 solenoid, but problems with either could cause these symptoms. There are two - one for 1-2, the other for 2-3. Labor costs are estimated between 158 and 200 while parts are priced between 48 and 54. Based on improvement after the fluid change/flush, my first guess would be a sticking shift solenoid. I went back to the quickie lube and they said to change my transmission fluid in my 2003 Saturn Vue 2.2L, I required a special oil and that Saturn recommended a scan tool to take the temperature of the transmission? So is this why it costs so much for the service? I changed my transmission oil once (not this Saturn) when I was young and nimble and the process was, drain the oil out-put the oil in. The average cost for a Saturn Vue Valve Cover Gasket Replacement is between 206 and 253.
